If you have searched for “GTA San Andreas Netflix,” you are probably wondering whether you can still play Rockstar’s classic open-world game through a Netflix subscription. Here is a clear breakdown of what happened, how it worked, and what your options are today.
Was GTA San Andreas Available on Netflix?
Yes. In December 2023, Netflix added Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, The Definitive Edition to its mobile gaming library. The bundle included GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, each available as a separate download for Netflix members.
It was a major addition to Netflix Games, which had mostly offered smaller indie titles and casual mobile games until then. Having one of the most famous open-world franchises on the platform helped draw attention to Netflix’s gaming push.
How Did GTA San Andreas Work on Netflix?
Netflix Games works differently from the streaming service. You did not watch GTA San Andreas like a show. Instead, you downloaded the game to your Android or iOS device and signed in with your Netflix account.
Key details of the Netflix version included:
- Free for all Netflix members, with no extra purchase required
- No ads and no in-app purchases
- Touchscreen controls designed for phones and tablets, with controller support on compatible devices
- Remastered visuals based on the Definitive Edition
You needed an active Netflix subscription to play. If your membership lapsed, you lost access to the game.
Is GTA San Andreas Still on Netflix?
No. Netflix removed the GTA trilogy from its games library in January 2025, as the licensing agreement with Rockstar Games came to an end. Since then, the games have not been part of the Netflix catalog, and availability on the platform may change, so it is worth checking the Netflix Games section for the latest information.
Is There a GTA San Andreas Movie or Series on Netflix?
No. Despite the occasional rumor, there is no GTA San Andreas film or TV series on Netflix. The searches usually come from the game’s mobile availability. Netflix has produced adaptations of other gaming franchises, but San Andreas has not received a screen adaptation.
Where Can You Play GTA San Andreas Now?
Even without Netflix, the game remains widely available:
- Mobile: The classic mobile version of GTA San Andreas has long been sold on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
- PC: The original game is sold on the Rockstar Games Launcher and Steam, and the Definitive Edition is available on PC as part of the trilogy.
- Consoles: The Definitive Edition is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
If you want the closest experience to the Netflix version, look for GTA San Andreas, The Definitive Edition, which features upgraded lighting, textures, and character models while keeping the original story intact.
Why Is GTA San Andreas Still So Popular?
Released in 2004, GTA San Andreas follows Carl “CJ” Johnson as he returns to Los Santos and gets pulled back into gang life. Its massive map, covering three cities and the countryside between them, was groundbreaking at the time. Players could customize CJ’s appearance, build his stats, and explore a detailed world filled with side missions, radio stations, and memorable characters.
That mix of story, freedom, and 2000s nostalgia explains why people still search for ways to play it on new platforms more than two decades later.
Final Thoughts
GTA San Andreas was available to Netflix members for a limited time, but it is no longer part of the service. Netflix remains a place to find mobile games included with your subscription, but for San Andreas you will need to buy it through a mobile app store, PC launcher, or console marketplace. Always check the official store pages for current availability and pricing, as these can change.
